Cultural events

The aim of the cultural activities being practiced at school is to:
 Ensure that cultural dances are not forgotten and are still practised in modern society.
 Motivate the learners to take part in local primary schools, provincial and national competitions.
 Envisage the future where the learner will be able to communicate effectively in the corporate world.

The following cultural events are offered at the school for the learners:

1. Cultural Dances

 Zulu dance, under the leadership of Ms. S. M. Mahlangu.

 Gumboots dance, under the guidance of Mrs. Nkoana.
 Tsonga dance, also called xibelana, under the guidance of Mrs. S. Ramaila.

 Gymnastics, under the multitalented Mrs. Masoga.
 Contemporary dance, under the firm hands of Mrs. M. R. Masoga.
 Sarafina dance, under the capable hands of Mrs. M. M. Malope.
 Sesotho sa Leboa traditional dance, under the mentorship of Mrs. D. R. Madubanya.
 Pantsula dance, under the leadership of Mrs Madubanya.

Aims and objectives

 To promote and maintain the African culture and roots.
 To educate our learners about our African culture through various activities.
 To ensure that each learner is proud of his or her heritage.
 To instil the love for cultural dance.
 To promote the desire for cultural activities.
 To make the learners to understand and to have the knowledge of the roots of their culture.
 To instil values, morals, respect and mutual respect of different culture across the broader spectrum of the school and the country.

2. Drama

The Art and culture facilitators, together with teachers who are the leaders of various traditional dance groups, annually train the learners to perform on such days as Cultural days, Open days at the school and when we have in – match or out – match during the debating sessions, as ice breakers or during recesses.

The grade three in a play called 'Tsotsi.'

3. Indigenous games

 These games have been introduced since last year, and are aimed at equipping the learners with appreciation of the games that had long been played by their ancestors, and are still played even now.
 There are even competitions that are held to determine the best player on a local, provincial and national level.

These games include

 Diketo
 Juskei.
 Dibeke.
 Morabaraba.
 Kgathi.
 Chops.

4. Music choirs/ Choral music

There is choral music, which take part each year in Tirisano Eisteddfod organized by the department of Education.

This is Mrs. Mangwane's choir.



5. Beauty pageant

The beauty pageant is held once a year to determine Mrs. Kgotlelelang. The reigning Miss Kgotlelelang is Lebogang Mogale who is in grade 5 this year.

Her responsibility is to encourage other learners to take care after themselves and to be exemplary in everything they do. The first princess is Busisiwe Khumalo and the second princess is Khensani Maluleke.

The following choirs are going to take part in the Tirisano Eisteddfod that is to be held on the 8th of June at the Pretoria City Hall:

 Junior choir. African, conducted by Mrs M. M. Malope.
 Junior choir. English rendition, conducted by Mrs. E. M. Tlokotsi.
 Junior choir. English rendition, conducted by Mrs. L. L. Kgwedi.
 SSA choir. African rendition, conducted by Mrs. Nzuza.
 SSTB choir. African rendition, conducted by Mrs. Gulston.
 Double Quartet. English rendition, conducted by Mrs. S. Ramaila.
 Sextet. English rendition, conducted by E. O. Radipabe.

The following teachers have been chosen as officials who will be assisting in the Tirisano Eisteddfod

 Mr. E. O. Radipabe has been chosen to be a recorder at the Tirisano Music Eisteddfod for Tshwane North, district 15.
 Ms. Lamola will be a guest usher, who will also serve in the same music Eisteddfod as Mr. Radipabe.

 Mr. Mabasa, who will serve as an usher for music choirs on the day.

 Mrs. Tlokotsi, who will be an overall overseer at the Eisteddfod.

Achievements

The girls’ choir, which was conducted by the capable hands of Mrs. Nzuza, got position 1 in 2001 and proceeded to the national eisteddfod in Giyani organized by PEU, which stands for Professional Educators’ Union.

In 2002, the girls’ choir, which was conducted by Mr. Radipabe, obtained position 1 and proceeded to Tirisano Eisteddfod, where they obtained position 3

In 2003, the mixed choir and the girls’ choir obtained position 3 at Tirisano Eisteddfod at the district level. They proceeded to the Provincial level and obtained position 3.

5. Debate

Aims and objectives

 To motivate the learner to embrace beauty.
 To motivate the learners to keep fit and be healthy.
 To encourage learners to be compassionate.
 To uplift the image of the school.
 To make friendship with other schools.

6. Drummies/ majorettes

This is the photo of the drummies of Kgotlelelang.



The cultural activities are an integral part of the school. The school caters for the growth of a child in totality.
